Despite suffering technical issues (and overcoming the busy schedule of a sophomore college student), Gabie Desales was able to demonstrate her full potential in the 2nd leg of the Phoenix National Slalom Series last April 2, 2017.
Her earlier runs at Robinsons Starmills, Pampanga were plagued by an ECU problem in her Honda Civic EK. But the team was able to quickly fix the glitch and Gabie carried on with her driving. Remaining focused, calm, and remembering all the lectured imparted by all her mentors and coaches, the 19-year-old tenaciously finished the race as a professional race car driver would do.
Gabie participated in the Ladies’, MSDP, and Front Wheel Drive Injected-Novice Classes. She ended the day with a 1st, 3rd, and 6th place finish, respectively. Triumphantly, she also logged her best time of 57.46 secs for the day on Federal 595 EVO tires – an astounding 8 sec improvement over her first run on the same venue in late 2016.
Despite missing out on the Novice Class’ podium, she remains determined to earn a Top 3 finish in that category, improving on her performance in every race.
Gabie Desales: “Despite not being able to get a Top 3 finish in the Novice Class, I am still happy with my overall performance. I was able to perform well mostly with clean runs. And with each run, I am able to determine which areas of the track I can further improve on to give me a better time. My first few runs were in the 60 secs range, but thankfully I was able to bring it down to 57.46 secs which was my best for the day.”
