Motorsport Development Program (MSDP) graduate and female race car driver, Gabie Desales entered the male-dominated sport of slalom racing last March 12 and impressed with her stellar performance.
The 19-year-old competed in 3 classes during the 1st leg of the 2017 Phoenix National Slalom Series held at Robinsons Novaliches, Quezon City. She began the day by benchmarking to determine where to make improvements for her official runs. Her coaches, along with her generous co-racers, also guided Gabie to unlock her full potential. As a result, she was able to greatly improve on her lap time, shaving 10 seconds off her previous best last year on the same venue.
With half a year of experience in slalom racing, Gabie was promoted from a newbie to a novice status and thus advanced to the Front Wheel Injected-Novice Class. There she logged a best run of 52.48 seconds, which was good enough for 1st place. However, a 2 second penalty was added to her time for hitting a pylon that dropped her to 4th.
Undeterred, Gabie kept her focus and drove flawless runs to bag 1st and 3rd places in the Ladies’ and MSDP Class, respectively.

This gives me encouragement, knowing that I have a lot more to learn and the thought of that excites me the most.
