Would you believe that, in just the first 5 months of 2019, there were 12,295 brand new Toyota Vios’es sold in the Philippines. That’s roughly 2,459 a month or 82 units per day, thus allowing the locally-assembled subcompact sedan to maintain its title as the country’s best selling vehicle by far.
To paint you the whole picture, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) sold 58,886 units in total for the same period. 8,723 of those were of the Hilux which so happens to be their 2nd best-selling model. But from the looks of things, TMP wants an even bigger piece of the pie and get the Vios’ sales figures closer to 3,000 a month, which was their average before the TRAIN law popped up in 2018.
“We think that the passenger car segment is starting to gain momentum, and we’re hoping that it would achieve higher growth levels in the coming months,” said Cristina Arevalo, First Vice President for Brand & Product Planning of TMP. “At the forefront of this passenger car segment recovery is the Toyota Vios. Of the total 50,097 passenger cars sold as of May 2019, the Toyota Vios accounts for a quarter of total passenger car sales.”
They plan to achieve this by extending the warranty period to 5-years (or 150,000 km, whichever comes first) for all newly-purchased Vios G and E variants until July 31, 2019. Apparently, this should give would-be owners “fulfillment and peace of mind,” as if Toyota’s unquestionable durability and reliability wasn’t enough of a selling point.
G and E variants also get a FREE Periodic Maintenance Package up to 20,000 kms that covers the 1K, 5K, 10K and 20K services, including fluids, filters, spark plugs, consumables, and labor. On top of this, TMP is offering up to P90,000 in savings when you buy an all-new Vios this month. Discounts are also available for the Innova, Fortuner, Hilux, Rush, and Wigo.
