If you want to see the most beautiful (and sometimes crazy) creations from Japan’s best tuning shops, you go to the Tokyo Auto Salon. One of these is the ‘Demio 15MB Racing Spec’ – Mazda’s new rally-ready road-legal race car that will debut this year.
Otherwise known as the Mazda 2, the Demio 15MB Racing Spec is based on the 15MB variant which you can buy for ¥32,400 at any JDM Mazda dealership. This stripped-down version is solely intended for competition use, hence 1.5L SkyActiv-G engine and the 6-speed manual box. What makes the ‘Racing Spec’ special, however, are the added goodies that adequately equips it to participate in Japanese national rallies.
The basic parts list include Mazdaspeed full bucket seats, Takata racing harness, roll bar, metallic footrest and heel plate for the driver and navigator, and a digital rally trip meter. Also do notice the nice set of wheels from OZ Racing and the bright red mudflaps.
Obviously, Mazda does have other motorsports- and tuning- oriented machines to display during the show. Expect to see the MX-5 Roadster NR-A Racing Spec fitted with a roll bar, tow hooks, and race livery. But if that doesn’t float your boat, we’re sure that you’ll be drooling over Mazda’s Racing Concepts.
Based on the MX-5 Roadster, CX-3 compact crossover, and Alexa sedan (aka Mazda 6), all 3 are dressed in black Mazdaspeed aero kits and beautiful alloy wheels. Each one is also equipped with an Alcantara interior and a 6-speed manual transmission, while the MX-5 gets a set of height adjustable suspension.
