How many Mustangs did Ford Philippines sell in 2017?

In 2017, Ford Philippines sold 36,623 brand new vehicles in the country. That’s 9% more than what they did in 2016 and broke sales records once again. We guess it was a good year for the blue oval brand, right? 12,455 of those were Everests, 11,299 were EcoSports, 10,658 Rangers, and so on and so forth.

However, as car guys, what we really wanted to know was how many Ponies did Ford sell in the country last year.

The current-gen Mustang arrived in local showrooms back in ’15. It came with 2 engine options, a 310 hp 2.3L EcoBoost and a more potent 435 hp 5.0L V8, and was (sadly) only available with a 6-speed SelectShift auto. Ford sold 210 examples that year (a portion of which were of the 5th gen Mustang) that further increased to 319 units in ’16. And by the end of ’17, Ford managed to find homes to 407 new ‘Stangs, which is about a Pony a day.

Not bad guys. Not bad at all.

Before the new taxes kick in, you can still buy the 2.3L EcoBoost version for P2.585-million. But the 5.0L V8 Premium, which really puts the ‘muscle’ in muscle car, will cost you P3.195-million. That’s still a bargain by our calculations, because buying the V8 roughly equates to paying P7,345 per pony. And this makes it the cheapest performance car in the market today, if you look at it the way we do.

To put things into perspective, a Subaru WRX STI costs P8,393 per hp, a Honda Civic Type R at P9,613, while a Volkswagen Golf GTI charges P10,409 for every horsepower.
