Whether you’re a racer or a basher, sadly all our radio-controlled cars (RC) have been sidelined due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But just like how full-sized motorsports turned to eSports to keep the races going, there’s also a scale-model sim equivalent so we can continue racing RC cars at home.
VRC Pro is a free-to-download RC racing sim. It works using its own physics engine to mimic the real deal including suspension geometry, tire wear, nitro engine/electric motor characteristics, and collisions. You can run on-road classes such as 1/10 Touring Cars and 1/12 Pan Cars, as well as go off-road with 1/8 Buggy and 1/10 Short Course Trucks on 75 real-world RC tracks.
Each RC model is also full-customizable not only in terms of livery, but also on car setup. This makes it suited for hardcore RC drivers who compete online in multiplayer events on VRC Pro. But that doesn’t mean amateurs and bashers can’t have their own fun whether in off-line mode or when they race with friends.
VRC Pro is unfortunately is for PC-only, so Mac users look away now. Your CPU needs to have a minimum equivalent to an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core TK-53, at least an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600 graphics card, 1 GB of RAM, and 2 GB of free disk space to play the game.
While they do sell a USB Adaptor that hooks up to any 2.4 GHz radio transmitter, VRC Pro works just as well with any game controller. Or if worst comes to worst, there’s always the keyboard.
VRC Pro will set you back P1,195.95 on Steam, but there is a downloadable version on www.VRCWorld.com. This gets you 10 cars and 10 tracks for FREE, which you can play even after this global pandemic is over.
