Everything we know about the TGR Philippine Cup 2024

Now on its 10th year running, Toyota Motor Philippines’ (TMP) one-make-series has a number of new things lined up for 2024. Aside from being renamed as the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Philippine Cup, there’s also a refreshed driver lineup, tweaked race format, new tire compounds, and an additional driver category.

Whereas only last year’s finale featured an enduro, all 3 weekends in 2024 will have an endurance race. There’s going to be a 1.5 hour race on Saturday afternoon for Round 1 (July 12/13) and Round 2 (September 27/28), while the Season Finale (November 8/9) will have a longer 2.0 hour race complete with a mandatory pit stop. Each round, however, will still have 2x 30-minute sprint races – 1 on Friday then another on Saturday.

With the arrival of the new official tire sponsor GT Radial also comes a collection of different tire compounds. Each class will now run on different rubber with the fastest guys in Super Sporting using ultra performance Champiro SX-R tires. Sporting Class entries, on the other hand, will run on Champiro SX2s with the Promotional Class Vios OMR cup cars fitted with Champiro GTX Pro designed for enthusiasts. This will really help split up the pack in terms of lap times and prevent different classes from fighting for track position.

There’s also an entirely new category that sits below the Promotional Class. The Novice Class is reserved for celebrity drivers, media representatives, and most importantly TMP President Masando Hashimoto. All will pilot identical black-liveried GR Vios Cup Cars, but please give way to car #4 because that’s Hashimoto-san coming through.

A total of 31 entries are expected to line up at the Clark International Speedway (CIS) during the season opener on July 12/13. The Super Sporting and Sporting Classes will form a grid of 18, while the Promotional and Novice Classes combined will make up an other grid of 13 cars.

Here’s the driver line up for the TGR Philippine Cup 2024.
