After bagging 3 major karting championships in Asia, William Go already had his eyes set for Europe in 2020. However, plans had to be shelved due to the COVID-19 pandemic which forced him out of competition. Now 13 years of age, the driver from Cebu is finally ending his 2-year hiatus as he confirms his campaign in OKJ with Forza Racing for the whole 2022 season.
His calendar consists of races in the WSK Super Master Series, IAME Euro Series, and FIA Karting Championships. That should take him around the top karting circuits in Spain, Belgium, Portugal, France, Finland, and Italy if he were to enter all events. While he has yet to confirm which rounds he’ll eventually contest in, he’s expected to kick off his year at the South Garda Karting Circuit in Lonato, Italy this weekend.
William decided to stay in the Junior Category for another year as has been away from racing for at least 24 months. But given his talent, we’re quite confident that the young karter should have no problems getting up to speed. He’ll also be looked after by Infinity Sports Management (who happens to handle drivers such as Mercedes AMG F1 driver George Russell), so we know that he’s in good hands.
But while he’s living the dream to race across Europe, it does beg the question how a 13-year-old manages to go to school with such a busy schedule. According to William, he attends classes online. And because of the time difference, his teachers skirt around this problem by giving him assignments and tests to complete when he’s away from the track.
