From the start of the year, we had clear indications that Zach David was itching to get into single-seaters. Despite having a full calendar in karting, the Sauber Junior Team driver would find ways to squeeze in Formula 4 tests in between his busy schedule. But what we didn’t expect is how soon he’ll make the jump, which as we now know will happen this weekend.
The announcement was made by US Racing, run by Gerhard Ungar and Ralf Schumacher. They’ll be fielding three entries at the ADAC F4 Championship’s penultimate round in Lausitzring, Germany from the 20th to the 21st of August. One of those will be Zach, who is interestingly racing under the flags of Malta and the Philippines. If you’re wondering why, that’s because while he was born and raised in the Philippines, it just so happens that his racing license is issued by Malta.
It seems that this will be a one-off outing for Zach in the German single-seater series, but won’t be his only Formula 4 race in 2022. As mentioned by his team, the 15-year-old is also eyeing several events in the Italian F4 Championship later in the year.
For now, our focus will be on Zach’s debut in the ADAC F4 Championship this weekend. Qualifying takes place on Friday, but won’t be streamed live. But the races will be available on the ADAC Motorsports YouTube Channel. Race 1 will get the green light at 5:35 PM (PHT) on Saturday, followed by Race 2 at 4:05 PM (PHT) on Sunday and 9:35 PM (PHT) for Race 3.
Zach David: “I am very pleased to announce that I will be driving for US Racing for the remaining Formula 4 season. I feel very comfortable with US Racing and now that I am 15, I can’t wait to race the rest of the season in Formula 4. My first race will already be this weekend at Lausitzring with the ADAC Formula 4 Championship. Having done previous test with US Racing I feel well prepared for the upcoming race event and I am very excited for my very first Formula 4 race. I would like to say thank you first of all to US Racing, my sponsors Ceramic Pro Philippines and Ceramic Pro Malta for their continuous support in my career. Not to forget my partners Stilo, Petron Corporation, and Malta Motorsport Federation.”
Gerhard Ungar, US Racing: “We watched Zach already for a while now, he did a great Job in Karting and already showed great potential in the Formula car. I am sure we will see some great races of Zach.”
Ralf Schumacher, US Racing: “Zach is a very kind and open-minded race driver. He just turned 15 this week and is still very young but already very concentrated and professional. We are now looking very much forward to see him racing this weekend.”
