The lone Philippine-based team in the Asia Superbike 1000 (ASB1000) is only a few days away from making their debut in the Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC). Access Plus Racing-Ducati Philippines-Essenza intends to run 2 Ducati Panigale V4R bikes at the season opener in Malaysia this weekend with riders Timothy Joseph “TJ” C. Alberto and Jonathan Serrapica.
Both joined the 2-day official test at the Sepang International Circuit earlier this week. This was their very first outing on the brand new machinery and Dunlop tires before the first round in the 2019 season on March 8/10.
TJ consistently improved with each run as he got accustomed with the Panigale V4R. The Filipino rider’s lap times significantly improved by the end of the official test, putting him in a good position for the weekend race. Teammate Serrapica, on the other hand, also had a productive experience with the Italian-Swiss rider gaining confidence on the team’s new bike.
Qualifying for the ARRC’s ASB1000 class will take place on Saturday morning followed by a 12-lap Race 1 in the afternoon. The action continues on Sunday with Race 2 at 1550H local time.
TJ Alberto, #77 Ducati: “We used the pre-season test to understand the brand new Ducati Pinagle V4R. These bikes are fresh from Ducati Corse and the team wants everything to be ready in time for the opening round this weekend. This will be my first time to race in Sepang, on a new bike so we’re really looking forward to the team’s new challenge.”
Jonathan Serrapica, #48 Ducati: “I am very excited to try out the new Ducati Panigale V4R and see how it performs in the race. Naturally, I’m a little anxious about the results, but working closely with the team, I’m motivated to deliver good results in Malaysia and have fun in the best way possible.”
