Access Plus Racing keen to go back racing in BRC with PSBK 2022

Missing from the calendar since the start of the pandemic, Access Plus Racing is welcoming the return of the Batangas Racing Circuit (BRC) in 2022 as the Philippine Superbike Championship (PSBK) revisits the 3.700 km course this weekend. Timothy Joseph “TJ” Alberto and Lawrence Macalinao will be attempting a repeat of their strong performance at the season opener despite the change in venue.

It has been two years since the series last run on BRC. And to make up for the lack of track time, the team invested heavily on testing to prepare for the race. The sessions allowed both riders to get re-acquainted with the track layout. But more importantly, it was a chance for the team to work on the Ducati Panigale V4’s setup and give Alberto and Macalinao the best bikes possible.

During the team’s last outing, Alberto managed to convert pole position into two hard-earned race victories at the Clark International Speedway. This gives him an overall points advantage heading into the second round of the season. Macalinao, on the other hand, impressed on his comeback race with Ducati. He was dominant in the Intermediate Class and picked up an easy win. However, an uncommon brake failure robbed him of another class victory yet still managed to claim 3rd.

Round 2 of the 2022 Philippine Superbike Championship (PSBK) takes place this July 2-3 at the Batangas Racing Circuit. Qualifying is scheduled on Saturday with Races 1 and 2 getting the green light on Sunday.

TJ Alberto, #77: “I’m really excited to race this weekend. Last time out we took two wins out of two races and will come into Round 2 with the points lead. However, being consistent is still the main goal and continue to build a points lead for the championship. It will also be my first race back in BRC after five years. Looking forward as I have had success in the past at BRC and last week’s test with the team went really well.”

Lawrence Macalinao, #26: “Looking forward to Round 2 of the PSBK. We have very little track experience as a team, but we are confident we can fight for the podium as seen in our tests. The team hopes that we can maintain our strong momentum from the season opener, and with our mechanical issues now solved, I can deliver consistent results in both races.”

Toti Alberto, Team Principal: “It’s good to be back racing in BRC. We don’t have a lot of experience with the Panigale V4 on this circuit and the team invested a lot of time to prepare for this weekend. Hoping that our hard work pays off as we give TJ and Lawrence the best bike possible for the weekend. What we’re sure of is that you’ll see both of them fighting at the front for Access Plus Racing.”

Access Plus Racing is sponsored by Ducati Philippines, Angkas, Essenza, Frontrow, Katinko, Makati Diamond Residences, Italtrans, Aella, Apex, Extreme Components, Lv8, Macbeth, Ohlins, and STM, with Motoworld and Teagumps.
