Petron x 4 Oras ng Pilipinas gets underway on June 12 with Kalayaan Cup

Running only half the race distance, the Petron x 4 Oras ng Pilipinas acts as the stepping stone to the 8 Hour Philippine Endurance Challenge (PEC). This allows new teams and drivers to prepare and shape up for the full-blown enduro in December. But this 2018, the bite-sized race is about to get a lot bigger when it teams up with the newly-formed 12 Hour Kalayaan Cup.

Presented by Petron Corporation as the official fuel and oil partner, it’ll now feature a mixed grid that starts at exactly 5:00 AM on June 12 at the Clark International Speedway (CIS). Teams running the 4 Oras ng Pilipinas then gets the chequered flag at 9:00 AM. But those in the 12 Hour Kalayaan Cup continue on ’til the race ends at 5:00 PM… if they can last the distance that is.

The rules, however, remain the same. Teams must have between 2 to 6 drivers (minimum of 3 for the Kalayaan Cup) and may opt to enter any of the 4 categories.

The RP Class is for full-blown race cars fitted with a roll cage and kill switch. Slightly modified cars with OEM doors, windows, and A/C can join the FM-1 (150 hp and up), FM-2 (100 to 150 hp), and FM-3 (less than 100 hp) classes. Lastly, the Manufacturer’s Cup is reserved for showroom stock vehicles with no modifications except for safety equipment.

Given the race distance, teams must be fully-prepared for pit stops, re-fueling, and tire changes. Hopefully though, safety car periods will be kept at a minimum this year.
