Stefan Ramirez follows in dad's footsteps; Sets up own Driving Academy

Following in the footsteps of his father, the late Kookie Ramirez, Stefan is also a racing driver. He took up motorsports at the age of 14, turned pro by 2009, and currently competes in the Giti-Formula V1 Challenge. And much like dad, has now decided to put up his own racing school.

The ‘Stefan Ramirez Racing (SRR) Driving Academy’ builds its foundation on 3-generations of the Ramirez family who were not just great racers, but also motorsport pioneers, instructors, and road safety advocates. Hence, the school adopts Kookie’s curriculum that puts an emphasis on safe driving skills that can be applied both on the road and the race track.

While they do offer beginner programs such as ‘Introduction to Driving and Safety’ and ‘Everyday Car Control’, what we’re truly interested in are the Driving Academy’s racing courses.

There are 3 available that progressively gets more difficult as you graduate up each level.

It starts with the fundamentals in ‘Basic Racing Techniques’. Then, students improve on race craft and lap times in ‘Intermediate Racing Techniques’. Finally, it culminates with ‘Advanced Racing Techniques’ that focuses on competitive circuit racing.

Each course is comprised of A) an interactive classroom session, B) supervised in-car exercises, C) a debrief, and D) open track sessions where students get to apply what they learned.

Classes can then be held either at the Clark International Speedway (CIS) or Batangas Racing Circuit (BRC), preferably on weekdays. The enrollee shoulders the track fee and yes, you also need to provide your own car as well as buy your own meals. The school, however, can lend out helmets if you don’t have one.

Interested? A full-day session with the SRR Driving Academy starts at P15,000 per student with slots limited to only 4 drivers per batch. There is no maximum or minimum age limit (as long as you know how to drive) and no prior racing experience required.

That’s a steal if you ask us, knowing that you’re getting racing lessons from the same lineage as the legendary Pocholo Ramirez.
