Following in the footsteps of its twin, the Toyota 86, Subaru has now come up with its own updated version of the BRZ for 2017. But before the standard version hits showrooms next year, Subaru of America hyping things up with this “Series. Yellow” special edition.
Yes, there’s an odd punctuation in the name and, you guessed it, comes in yellow.
What you see here is the subtle facelift all future BRZs will have. It involves a restyled front bumper (specifically the aero bits around the fog lamps), LED headlights with DRLs, and new taillights that seem to be identical to the latest 86. Except for the 17-in black alloy wheels that seems to be unique to the Series. Yellow, the BRZ’s exterior seems to be mostly untouched.
Subaru will only ever build 500 examples of the Series. Yellow… all painted in Brilliant Yellow. All will also come with black BRZ and Subaru badges, black side mirrors, and an aluminum rear spoiler. Likewise, the interior comes with yellow stitching on the seats, door panels, steering wheel, shift boot, plus huge BRZ logos on the seats embroidered in yellow.
To make things extra special, the Series. Yellow comes equipped with the Performance Package. The parts list include Brembo 4-piston calipers and rotors upfront and dual-piston units at the back, SACHS shock absorbers, updated coil springs, a larger rear stabilizer bar, and a lower final drive ratio. Subaru also tweaked with the stability control system so much that it warranted the ‘Sport’ mode to be renamed as ‘Track’.
Now here’s the important bit. The 2.0L BOXER engine has been upgraded with new internal parts, a new aluminum intake manifold, and a redesigned exhaust manifold. All these help increase power output from 200 hp to 205. That’s a a huge 5 hp boost from the old BRZ that should blow everyone away. *sarcasm*
If you want one, Subaru of America will begin selling the BRZ Series. Yellow in early 2017 – all fitted with a 6-speed manual.
