Tänaybürgring 2015 will be more than just your ordinary Sunday drive

This year’s edition of the Tänaybürgring will soon be upon us, and with it will be “more driving pleasure on some of the country’s most breathtaking roads.” Mark your calendars, because we’re taking off on July 26, 2015.

If you were there in last year’s run, you would know that the ‘Epic’ in Epic Tanay Matsuri’is no joke. More popularly known as the Tänaybürgring, the much-awaited yearly event has become more than just your ordinary Sunday drive.

To Iori Suzuki of Team A Motorsports, the group behind the event, the Tänaybürgring is “a homage to the once famous rally stages of the Philippines.” With a seemingly endless sea of traffic in Metro Manila, it’s hard to imagine that such amazing roads are but a couple dozen kilometers away, and that these roads had once hosted rally events.

“We should never forget what we have, so the Tänaybürgring is our way of passing on the knowledge to the new guys,” Suzuki continues.

For this year’s event, Team A decided to really shake things up with a new 343 kilometer route, going counterclockwise. This new route starts with a drive along the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), and ends at Cafe Katerina, a restaurant overlooking the Sierra Madre mountain range in Tanay, Rizal.

Total driving time? Around 10 to 12 hours. As it says in the event’s official guidelines, “this is no small task, as the route is very long, challenging and exhausting.”

As an event, the Tänaybürgring presents itself as “part fun run, part endurance rally.” This is not to say that it is a street race by any means – there is no timing system, and no reward for finishing first. There is, however, a special “Spirit of the Tänaybürgring” award, given to not the fastest driver, but to the one who best exhibits their love for driving.

Do you think you have what it takes to finish the entire Tänaybürgring route? There’s still a month away to prepare your car (and yourself) for the challenge.

This year’s event starts at 4:00 AM, July 26, 2015 at the Shell Gas Station on the corner of Macapagal Boulevard and Bradco Avenue in Pasay City.

The 2015 Epic Tanay Matsuri is organized by Team A Motorsports and Ozawa JDM. For more details, head over to the Tänaybürgring page on Facebook.
