Toyota Gazoo Racing Vios Cup awards 2022 champions (w/ driver points)

It only took Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) three full months to wrap up the 2022 season of the Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) Vios Cup. But despite the slight delay, we’re just happy to know that we can now celebrate the Super Sporting, Sporting, and Promotional Class champions of last year.

With double points up for grabs at the season finale, it was a three-way battle between John Dizon, Iñigo Anton, and Gerald Loy for the Super Sporting Class title. Unfortunately, it was a weekend to forget for John as he saw his title hopes slip away. Still, the Funhan Mart – Obengers Racing driver managed to score enough points to end the year in 3rd. Gerald of R Racing Team, on the other hand, was a man on a mission and had the championship in his sights. But even his best efforts could only land him in 2nd unable to match the consistency of Iñigo of Toyota North EDSA – Obengers Racing who was crowned Super Sporting Class Champion with a 15 point lead.

Joaquin Garrido of Toyota Otis – Obengers Racing was on fire during the season finale, winning two out of the three races. However, his stellar performance could only get him to 2nd in the Sporting Class championship and lost out to Royce Sarmiento of RMS Cars Racing Team by a single point. Troy Montero proved that he was past his Celebrity Class days and belonged with the big boys as he finished 3rd in 2022.

The Promotional Class saw the top five drivers slug it out for the championship. Jay Lao of Happy Hotels – OTR Racing was the biggest winner after a race win and a podium propelled him to the top of the points table to be crowned champion. The one-two punch from Toyota Team Cebu had mixed results, but Ian Rosales and Alan Palacios were able to hold onto 2nd and 3rd.

Lastly, the combined efforts of the Obengers Racing drivers earned them the overall Team Award for the 2022 season.

Here’s how the TGR Vios Cup’s driver standings stacked up after Round 3.

The Toyota Gazoo Racing Vios Cup 2022 was organized in cooperation with Bridgestone, and Petron, together with other sponsors Brembo, Denso, OMP, Tuason Racing, AVT, 3M, ROTA, myTOYOTA Wallet, and Kinto One.
