As car guys, we should all know by now how a car engine works, right? Well, don’t be embarrassed if you don’t. That’s why we’re here to help. And luckily, there’s a talented guy by the name of Jacob O’Neal who made this animated infographic to explain how it all happens.
The Otto-cycle engine is more than just the simple suck, squeeze, bang, and blow. It needs cam gears, fuel injectors, motor oil, a radiator, spark plugs, and whatnot to function under the hood – all of which Jacob explains through this infographic. And with the help of animation, he made it a whole lot easier to understand how they all work together, including hybrid technology.
Although it doesn’t explain how to get more power out of an engine or make it run more efficiently, it will give you an idea what each component does. Plus, I’m sure that there are some of us who need a refresher course every now and then.
