Danzel Waytan pushes toward front in F110 Cup round at Okayama

Two months after the season opener at Motegi, Danzel Waytan returned to Japan last weekend for Round 2 of the F110 Cup, this time at the Okayama International Circuit. The 18-year-old Filipino once again showed flashes of talent despite a difficult Qualifying session that put him on the back foot for the rest of the weekend.

Driving for KF Motorsport, Danzel gradually built confidence throughout Practice as he adapted to the 3.703 km track. However, this promising pace failed to carry over into Qualifying after he missed the peak grip window of his tires during his flying lap, ultimately placing him P13, over a second off pole position.

Despite the setback, Danzel kept his head down and focused on making progress during the races.

Race 1 proved challenging early on after a slow start, but the #67 KF Motorsport driver was able to recover several positions in the opening laps. As the race progressed, however, he struggled to keep up with the front runners and gradually lost ground, eventually crossing the line in 12th.

Determined to end the weekend on a stronger note before flying back home to the Philippines, Danzel came into Race 2 with renewed confidence. This time, he launched well off the line and quickly climbed to P8 while charging toward the front pack.

For the first time during the weekend, Danzel was able to match the pace of the leading group and began attacking the cars ahead. But while battling for P6, he pushed over the limit and lost time after committing several small mistakes. He eventually brought the car home in 9th.

While the results may not fully reflect his potential, the weekend marked another valuable learning experience for the young Filipino as he continues adapting to formula racing. With limited seat time compared to many of his rivals, Danzel and KF Motorsport remain focused on steadily closing the gap to the front runners.

The third and final round of the 2026 F110 Cup will take place in December at Mobility Resort Motegi. During the long seven-month break, Danzel plans to return to Japan for additional test sessions while continuing his preparation through simulator training back home in the Philippines.

Danzel Waytan: “The results on paper definitely don’t reflect the pace and potential we showed this weekend. It may not have been the result we were aiming for, but it’s still been one of the most valuable weekends for me so far. The team and I were able to identify the areas I still need to improve on, and we’re confident it’s something that will come naturally with more seat time and experience behind the wheel.”

Danzel Waytan is sponsored by Gerry’s Grill, AZ Racing, and D Racing Simulators.
