MSCC promises bigger 22-car grid for second season of Miata Spec Series

After last year’s success, the country’s only one-make sports car series is back for a second season. Mazda Philippines and the Manila Sports Car Club (MSCC) has confirmed a second year running of the MSCC Miata Spec Series, which begins in April.

While the ‘Mazda MX-5 ND Spec Series’ cup cars remain the same, the 2023 season will see the championship visit a new venue. This will be the first time for the series to race on the Batangas Racing Circuit (BRC), which will stage the first 2 events of the season. It’ll then return to the Clark International Speedway (CIS) in August followed by the season ender in October. Like before, 2 races are scheduled per weekend which sums up to 8 races in total for 2023.

From the 20-car grid last year, Mazda Philippines and MSCC also confirms that there will be 22 cars vying for the championship in 2023. Reining overall champion Allan Uy is set to defend his title against closest rivals Angie King and Tyson Sy once again. New to the lineup are 2017 Vios Cup Promotional Class Champion Red Diwa, Tonypet Albano, and Manny Eduque.

2023 MSCC Miata Spec Series Race Calendar
Round 1 | April 15 (Batangas Racing Circuit)
Round 2 | June 24 (Batangas Racing Circuit)
Round 3 | August 26 (Clark International Speedway )
Round 4 | October 28 (Clark International Speedway )

“After the success of the MSCC Miata Spec Series last year, we couldn’t wait to get going again this 2023,” shares Steven Tan, President and CEO of Mazda Philippines. “This one-make format provides a unique opportunity for MSCC members to polish their skills and enjoy the pure essence of driving that only an MX-5 can provide.”

The 2023 MSCC Miata Spec Series is sponsored by Pilipinas Shell, GT Radial, and B.R.M. Chronographes.
