Zach David ready to race PH flag in Formula Regional Europe

When the 2024 Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA) gets underway this week, there will only a lone driver donning the Philippine flag on the grid. Zach David is set to compete in the full 10-round season with French team R-ace GP and the goal of bringing pride to the country.

Zach demonstrated his talent in Formula Regional Middle East earlier this year. The 16-year-old went to score 4 podiums to finish 4th in both the Overall Drivers’ and Rookie Cup standings over the 5-round championship. It’s worth noting that Zach finished not far behind Formula 1 juniors in the points and ahead of several FIA F3 drivers. Not only did his efforts contributed to R-ace GP bagging the Team Championship, but he also earned 10 Super License points to his name.

After a short break, the Malta-licensed Filipino driver is now ready to take on the Formula Regional European Championship. He forms part of R-ace GP’s 3-car lineup competing alongside Ferrari Driver Academy (FDA) driver Tuukka Taponen and Red Bull Junior Enzo Deligny.

The championship gets the green light this May 10/12 at Hockenheimring in Germany, before it tours world-renowned Formula 1 circuits such as Zandvoort and Hungaroring. It will then conclude at Monza on the October 25/27 to complete the 2024 calendar. With 2 races per weekend, it will see Zach race the Philippine flag in 20 race starts in total.

Zach David: “A lot positives coming from preseason testing. We went through our program and we should now be ready for the first round at Hockenheim. My goal in FRECA is to learn as much as I can. The competition here is really tight so every little bit counts. I’ll try to do the best I can and enjoy the races in the process. I also think it’s quite important to be representing the Philippines and Malta at this level of motorsports. It’s good to put both countries up there and give them recognition they deserve.”
