13-year-old Ethan Ong ready to take on Rotax MAX and Rok GP in Juniors

This might only be his second full year in karts, but Ethan Ong is already a serious competitor on track. He finished runner-up in MiniRok on his debut season and it’ll be worth keeping an eye on this young talent in 2022. That’s because this 13-year-old will take on the Rotax MAX Challenge and Rok GP Super Karting Series with hopes of taking both titles.

Ethan drives for his dad’s team Ethanworx Motorsports, which is an established name in touring cars winning the PTCC driver’s title 3 times. He’s also under the watchful eye of renowned driver coach Edgen Dy-Liacco of EdgeSport, so you know he’s in good hands. Together, they’ve spent countless weekends on track to further hone his race craft and kart setup ahead of the season start. He is moving up to the Junior Category after all, where the karts are bigger and faster, so he needs all the seat time that he can get.

He is the team’s lone entry in karting so far, racing a Kosmic Kart in the livery of his sponsors Modesta Premium Glass Coatings and Autozkin Paint Protection over the entire 2022 season. The combined calendars of Rotax MAX Challenge and Rok GP Super Karting Series will keep him busy with 12 rounds starting this April at the Carmona Race Track and conclude in November.

Ethan and the team will be aiming for race wins and with consistent results, hope to claim the championship by the end of the year. This will be a crucial step in his journey up the motorsport ladder as he works towards his ultimate goal of competing around the region and internationally.

Ethan Ong: “It’s only my second year in karts, but we are hoping to win races in both Rotax MAX and Rok GP. The team has been preparing hard for this year and we’re at the track almost every week to practice. Although this will be our first time in the Junior Category, I will do my best to win the championship.”

Jeff Roxas Chua, General Manager of Auto Vault Speed Shop: “Ethan has been our our driver for the second year now, and his performance has proven that he has what it takes to perform at the highest level in karting.
