After a rather successful season with KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG), the Hong Kong-based team has confirmed that Kamui Kobayahi will once again drive for them in Super Formula this 2018. Woohoo!
Yes, the ex-BMW/Sauber/Caterham Formula 1 and current Toyota Gazoo Racing driver is back. This time though, thanks to his new car stereo sponsor, the squad will run as ‘Carrozeria Team KCMG’ throughout the season. And like last year, he’ll be running the team’s blue-and-white #18 SF14 in the 7-event calendar.
Kobayashi managed to score 16.5 points in the 2017 season and came 5th in the overall driver’s championship. He also nearly won a race at Motegi, but a botched pit stop dropped him down to 2nd. Still, it wasn’t so bad as it was the team’s very first podium in Super Formula. EVER.
It’ll be yet another busy year for Kobayashi. Aside from competing in Super Formula, he also has driving duties with Toyota Gazoo Racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) plus Lexus Team Sard in Super GT 500. If you sum everything up, he’ll be competing on 20 weekends throughout 2018.
