Philippines races to Overall Champions at 2025 Asia Pacific Motorsport C'ship

Team Philippines delivered a stellar performance at the 2025 Asia-Pacific Motorsport Championship (APMC) in Sri Lanka, coming home with 6 medals in total — 2 Gold, 2 Silver, and 2 Bronze — to claim the coveted Overall Champions Trophy.

Held from September 26 to 28 at the Sri Lanka Karting Circuit – Bandaragama, the event gathered more than 200 competitors from 25 nations across multiple disciplines. The Philippines’ 12-driver squad, handpicked by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP), rose to the challenge and brought pride to the country on the international stage.

By the end of the weekend, host country Sri Lanka, Hong Kong/China, and Malaysia each finished tied in 2nd place with 5 medals apiece — underscoring just how competitive the championship was.

This result also marks a huge improvement from the previous APMC held in Malaysia back in 2023, where the Philippines secured just a single medal — a bronze in Karting Slalom courtesy of Joaquin Garrido.

Additionally, Dorathea Edeina Acejas Legaspi secured a Bronze medal in the Ladies’ Class of Auto Gymkhana, though this was not included in the official tally.

Rikki Dy-Liacco, AAP Head of Motorsports: “Our modest team of 12 drivers proved highly competitive against 210 others that we won, for our country, the much-coveted APMC Nations Cup Champion title. This is testament to the commitment and skill of each of our drivers who pushed in each of their categories. Valuable lessons will be picked up as we prepare to defend our title in 2027.”

With this achievement, Team Philippines not only secured medals but also cemented their status as one of the strongest motorsport contingents in the Asia-Pacific region.
