Filipino karter Ryan Sy delivered a flawless performance at Round 2 of the ROK Cup Thailand, held at the Bira Karting Circuit. Driving for RS Racing and CW Motorsports, the 15-year-old sealed pole position, won all his heats, and led the Finals from start to finish — marking his first clean sweep in the Senior Class.
A month after securing a podium at the Macau Kart Grand Prix, Ryan arrived in Thailand full of confidence. He showed strong pace early on, setting the 3rd fastest time in the final Official Practice session.
Qualifying, however, proved to be a gamble. With parts of the track still damp and dark clouds looming overhead, Ryan had to time his run perfectly. He chose to wait while others went out first — betting that the track would dry out before the rain returned. The strategy paid off. On his first push lap, he clocked a 50.049 secs time, which was enough to earn him pole position — 0.154 secs ahead of P2.
With a clear road ahead, Ryan went on the attack straight from the start of the Heat. He built an early gap, then settled into a controlled rhythm while managing tire wear. His pace remained strong, allowing him to secure a lights-to-flag victory, crossing the line with a 0.886 secs lead.
He repeated the feat in the Pre Finals, once again executing a clean getaway from pole. Local Thai driver Worapong Aiemwichan mounted a mid-race challenge, but Ryan defended well and maintained his composure under pressure. In the end, he held on to win by 0.160 secs — completing back-to-back wins.
The Finals shaped up as a defining moment for Ryan. A perfect weekend was within reach — but anything could still happen. Luck briefly swung in his favor when Aiemwichan stalled during the formation lap, removing one of his main rivals from contention. When racing finally got underway, Singaporean driver Luke Armstrong launched an early attack, but Ryan held firm. Armstrong got within half a second but never found a way through. Staying focused and consistent, Ryan crossed the line 0.497 secs clear — completing a dominant weekend with three wins from three starts.
Ryan Sy: “It was a long 19-lap race, and I let out a big sigh of relief when I crossed the finish line. I was overjoyed to win my first international Senior race against some of the best karters in Asia. The key to the weekend was managing the tires, getting the kart setup right, and staying calm under pressure. It’s an amazing feeling to come away with a perfect weekend — pole in Qualifying, and wins in the Heat, Pre Final, and Final.”
