Ryle Almazora crowned Rookie Karter of the Year in T4 Series finale

One of the youngest drivers on the T4 Series Pilipinas’ grid has now taken the title of 2024 Cadet Novice Overall Champion. 8-year-old Ryle Almazora already sealed the championship during the Qualifying Heats at the season ender, but still went on to fight for a class win in the Finals at the Carmona Race Track (CRT).

This also earned him the Rookie Karter of the Year crown, which he expects to receive at the annual Golden Wheel Awards.

Driving for Mercedes Young Driver Development Philippines (YDDP), Ryle has been a on a roll all year long. 3 wins and 4 podium finishes has given him a 51-point lead in the T4 Cadet Novice standings heading into the weekend. But with 75 points available last October 5/6, the championship was still up for grabs.

Ryle made sure to set the bar high for his competitors as early as Qualifying, clocking in a 1:05.696 lap. Not only was he the quickest T4 Cadet Novice driver on track, but was only 0.001 secs shy off teammate Franco Patawaran who was on pole in T4 Cadet Expert.

However, the weather quickly changed before Heat 1 and turned the tides against Ryle who was not a fan of the wet. Despite the circumstances, he soldiered on and fought for position in the tricky conditions. He wrestled his #101 Tillotson kart in the rain for 6 grueling laps to finish 2nd in class.

Although the rain had already stopped in time for Heat 2, the team sent him out on wets with hopes of gaining an advantage on the damp track. Unfortunately, it proved to be the wrong strategy. This left him unable to defend and dropped down the order to end the race in a lowly 6th in T4 Cadet Novice. But that didn’t matter. By this stage, Ryle had already scored enough points to secure the class title heading into the Finals.

The newly-crowned T4 Cadet Novice champion wanted to conclude the season on a high note and saved his best performance for the last race of the weekend. Starting from P6, he immediately moved several places up at the start to gain the class lead. Ryle then hounded the T4 Cadet Expert drivers, eventually finishing 2nd on the road behind Patawaran and claimed 1st amongst the T4 Cadet Novice runners.

His strong results at the season finale also allowed Ryle to secure the class championship with a 90-point advantage.

Ryle Almazora: “It feels good to win the championship because it’s my first year in karting and also the youngest in Cadet Novice this whole season. It’s going to be great getting the Rookie Cadet Karter of the Year trophy in the Golden Wheel Awards. I’d like to thank team owners tito Mike and tita Aileen, my coaches Jerald, Kad, AJ, and Roel, our mechanics kuya Christian, kuya Albert, and kuya Mario, my teammates, and Mercedes YDDP parents.”
