Iñigo Anton celebrates over a decade of motorsport achievements

Suffice to say, Iñigo Anton is one of the rising young talents in Philippine motorsports today. Son of touring car champion Carlos Anton, he has made dad proud with his trophy collection amassed through numerous victories and championships across several disciplines – from slalom, touring cars, single seaters, and even in eSports.

But with his long list of achievements, it’s easy to forget that Iñigo is only 20-years-old. Here’s a quick look back at the most notable moments of his young career as he displays his world-class talent in the sport.

Early Signs of Talent in Time Attack
Iñigo’s abilities became evident at an incredibly young age. Barely tall enough to see over the dashboard of his mom’s M3, he landed a podium at only 8-year-old. He made a splash in Circuit Showdown and beat drivers more than twice his age in the Bracket Races, signaling a promising future for the young driver.

Sensational Shift into Karting
He then moved to karting at the age of 10 where his natural talent quickly showed, winning the ’15 Formula Cadet Novice Karter of the Year on his first full season. He also won the Asian Karting Open Championship (AKOC) race in Macau in that same year, before securing the Formula Cadet National Karter of the Year in ’16.

Youngest Slalom and Autocross Champion
He then followed in his dad’s footsteps who himself was an accomplished multiple-time slalom and autocross champion. At just 11-years-old he demonstrated his skill navigating through challenging courses with unmatched speed, agility, and finesse. Backed by Mark Young Racing, Iñigo would finish on the podium in all events to claim titles in both the National Slalom Series and Philippine Autocross Championship Series (PACS).

Back-to-Back Titles in the TGR Vios Cup
Now switching to circuit racing, Iñigo was called up by Obengers Racing to compete in the ultra-competitive Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) Vios Cup. And what a debut it was for the young driver, securing the ’21 Sporting Class Championship on his first attempt. He then moved up to the top-tier Super Sporting Class in ’22 where he won the title again.

4th at the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual
Iñigo was not just excelling in real world racing, but also in the virtual world. He entered the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual with Axle Motorsport – lead by ex-Formula 1 driver Alex Yoong – and raced twice around the clock against a star-studded international field of drivers, which included Max Verstappen. In the end, the team would finish in a stellar 4th overall in an Oreca 07 LMP2.

Double Duty in Formula V1 and Radical Challenge
2023 was an exceptionally busy year for Iñigo. He ran BOTH in Radical Challenge Philippines to defend his title and Formula V1 Challenge with Obengers Racing. Although the machineries may look similar, they are completely different animals. Still, he was a force to be reckoned with and interestingly, was crowned Formula V1 and Radical Challenge Philippines champion on the same weekend.

Racing the Flag as an Esports Olympian
Representing your home country in the Olympics has to be one of the most prestigious achievements an athlete could ever have. Also in 2023, Iñigo became the first Filipino to compete in the Olympic Esports Week held in Singapore. He made it into the Finals where he raced against the Top 10 Gran Turismo drivers in the world.

Strong debut in Formula 4 SEA
Iñigo reached another milestone when he made his single-seater debut in Formula 4 Southeast Asia (F4SEA). Entering the season finale at the Sepang International Circuit (CIS) with BlackArts Racing, he secured 2 point-scoring finishes with a best 5th place finish in December. It was truly an impressive performance from the Filipino driver on his first competitive outing in Formula 4 machinery.

Podium at the Taipei International Gymkhana
Racing under the banner of Automobile Association Philippines (AAP), Iñigo kicked off the new year with a bang at the 2024 Taipei International Gymkhana Prize (TIGP). He made his mark early on, setting fast times during practice and consistently landing in the Top 3 throughout qualifying. Besting 50 elite drivers from 16 countries, he took the Philippines to the podium by finishing 3rd in the Male Solo division.
