Zach David takes races to Japan with Super Formula Lights entry in 2025

After successful campaigns in Formula 4 and Formula Regional in Europe and the Middle East, Zachary ‘Zach’ David is taking the next step up the motorsport ladder in 2025. The Malta-licensed Filipino driver has confirmed his entry in Super Formula Lights driving for B-Max Racing.

The championship runs a Dallara 324 chassis with a 1.6L 3-cylinder engine (sourced from a Toyota GR Yaris)-positioning itself in between Formula Regional and Formula 3 in terms of performance. While it’s not as fast as Formula 3 in a straight line, Zach commented that it’s definitely a match going around corners with aero being a key factor.

Aside from a new car, Zach will also have to adjust working with a new team. B-Max Racing has over a decade of experience competing at the top level of Formula 4, Formula 3, and Super Formula. Its drivers also won 3 drivers’ championships in Super Formula Lights over the last 4 years.

But the biggest change according to Zach will be the new culture and environment competing in Japan.

“I need to adapt to working with a new set of people, racing against new drivers, on new tracks. It’s going to be a big challenge, but one that will need me to be adaptable and be open to change,” he shared.

The 2025 season of Super Formula Lights kicks off at the Suzuka Circuit on March 7/9. It then goes on a tour of Japan’s most popular tracks—Autopolis, Okayama, Sportsland Sugo, Fuji Speedway, and Twin Ring Motegi—until November for a 6-round championship. However, as some races clash with the 2025 Formula Regional European Championship, it will be confirmed at a later date which events Zach will have to miss.

2025 Super Formula Lights Calendar
Round 1 | March 7-9 (Suzuka Circuit)
Round 2 | May 16-18 (Autopolis)
Round 3 | June 20-22 (Okayama International Circuit)
Round 4 | August 29-31 (Sportsland Sugo)
Round 5 | September 5-7 (Fuji Speedway)
Round 6 | November 28-30 (Twin Ring Motegi)

Zach David: “Jumping into a new car, new team, and new tracks will be a new challenge for 2025. I need to develop my understanding of the car and get up to speed as quickly as possible as I’m going up against a grid of very experienced drivers. I’m very happy and excited for what the season has to offer and looking forward to driving with B-Max Racing.”

Zach David is sponsored by Ceramic Pro, Stilo Helmets, Puma Attard Baldacchino, JG Summit Olefins Corporation, AutoPlus Sports, KLO & CO, Malta Motorsports Federation, and Time Attack Manila.
