Toyota Gazoo Racing Vios Cup ready to race with 29 drivers in 2022

The 8th season of the Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) Vios Cup is getting the green light in a week’s time and we have all the names that will take part in this year’s grid. A total of 29 drivers are set to compete in the 2022 championship, however, not all will be present at the season opener taking place this July.

A total of eight (8) entries have been confirmed in the top-tier Super Sporting Class. This includes reigning Sporting Class Champion, Iñigo Anton, who will now go up against the quickest drivers on track. Also new is Filipino-British driver Daryl Deleon Taylor of Obengers Racing. The 16-year-old is an accomplished karter before he moved up to the Radical SR1 Cup and GB4 Championship where he collected a series of race wins and podium finishes. This will be first outing in touring cars and also his first race in the Philippines.

The Sporting Class, on the other hand, is filled will familiar faces. Obengers Racing and JBT Racing are fielding three (3) drivers each. Troy Montero will be out to prove that he’s no longer just another ‘celebrity driver’, while Royce Sarmiento completes the grid for RMS Cars Racing Team.

As always, the Promotional Class brings together the biggest number of drivers. 2022 sees the return of Toyota Team Cebu after a two-year hiatus with newcomers Felvin Gurrea and Alan Palacios who are joined by former Vios Cup podium finisher Ian Rosales. You’ll also find Vios Cup veteran celebrity drivers Fabio Ide and Daniel Matsunaga still mixing it up with the rookies. There are 13 class entries all-in-all but sources say that a large chunk might not make it to the first race of the year.

The TGR Vios Cup 2022 kicks off on July 1/2 at the Clark International Speedway. And for the first time since the pandemic, it will be open to spectators. But if you can’t make it all the way to the track, the races will again be livestreamed on the Toyota Motor Philippines and Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippines’ social media accounts.

After a short break, the season resumes on August 19/20 with the season finale taking place on November 18/19 – all at the same venue.
