Electric indoor karting track EKartRaceway slated to open in March

When the much-beloved City Kart Racing in Circuit Makati closed its doors back in 2021, not only did it leave a gaping hole in our hearts but also left us city dwellers no other venue to scratch our racing itch. But thankfully, things are about to change when EKartRaceway officially opens for business in March 2022.

Located on the 3rd level of SM City North EDSA, it occupies a 2,091 sq. meter area which manages to house a bi-level, 303 meter track. It’s slated to be the very 1st indoor electric kart track in the country, which means you can go racing in any weather rain or shine. This is also a reason why they’ve decided to go all-electric, allowing them to operate clean, noise-free, and emissions-free.

EKartRaceway will offer 3 types of karts available for rent when operation starts. Junior Karts sourced from RaceParx in the USA should fit 6 to 15-year-olds, while customers need to be at least 4 feet 6 inches tall to drive one of their Adult Karts built by Blue Shock Race (BSR). Then there’s the Dual Seaters for those who want to take a child or a friend along for a ride. All come equipped with proprietary safety barriers and accident avoidance sensors.

But just because EKartRaceway is yet another ‘rental kart’ venue doesn’t mean these things are slow. We’ve been told that the e-karts are rated to reach a top speed of 90 km/h when running on full steam.

Keeping safety a top priority, all karts are speed limited based on driver skill and increased accordingly to their experience. The track can also shut down the karts of any unruly or reckless drivers out on track, so joyriders beware. And for those concerned about health during a pandemic, it’s good to know that EKartRaceway is adopting a POS platform that will allow customers to register and reserve via an app and minimize face-to-face contact. The facility will also disinfect equipment after each run and observe minimum physical distancing protocols.

When business opens, rates are going to be Php 650 for a 6 minute race in a Junior Kart and Php 950 for an 8 minute run in an Adult Kart. Karting clinics, monthly events, and championship series are also in the works.
