Red Diwa takes Rookie Cup runner-up spot in TCR Asia season finale at Zhuzhou

Red Diwa capped off his debut season in the 2025 TCR Asia Series on a high note, securing two strong finishes during the season finale at Zhuzhou International Circuit in China. The results were enough for the lone Filipino driver on the grid to claim 2nd in the Rookie Cup standings, while also helping Eurasia Motorsport secure 2nd overall in the TCR Asia Team Championship.

Once again running alongside the FIA TCR World Tour, the combined field featured 22 cars—including some of the world’s top touring car drivers. Adding to the challenge, it was Red’s first time racing at the 3.774 km circuit, with only a handful of sessions to get up to speed. He ended Friday’s Free Practice 19th fastest overall as he continued to learn the track.

By Saturday’s Qualifying, Red managed to slash a full second off his previous best and delivered a 1:48.251 lap—good enough for 18th overall and 5th fastest among the TCR Asia entries. However, he was handed a 3-place grid penalty for impeding another driver during the session, dropping him to P21 for the start of Race 1.

Starting from the back, Red got off to a clean start and gradually closed in on Chinese driver Haojie Yang. He eventually found a way past and pulled clear, opening up an 11.343 secs gap to finish 20th overall and 4th in the Rookie Cup.

Conditions shifted ahead of Race 2 as light rain began to fall just before the start. Red, along with several others, opted to stay on slicks—a gamble that ultimately proved to be the right call. He managed to find grip and muscled his way up to 17th overall by the finish. The result earned him 4th in TCR Asia and 3rd in the Rookie Cup—his fifth and final podium of the season.

For the final time this season, Red lined up on the grid in Race 3 aboard his #381 Hyundai Elantra N TCR run by Eurasia Motorsport. Now fully on pace with the rest of the field, it was shaping up to be a strong finish. Unfortunately, turbo issues on Lap 6 forced him into early retirement—cutting short what could have been a promising finale in his debut year.

On the bright side, Race 3 did not count toward the overall championship standings. And despite missing a round earlier in the year, Red ends the 2025 season 2nd in the TCR Asia Rookie Cup standings, while Eurasia Motorsport also secures 2nd overall in the TCR Asia Team Championship.

Red Diwa: “It was an amazing experience overall. First time driving a 400 hp car, on slicks, in 3 countries, and 5 different tracks. I gained a lot of experience and learned so much this year. I think we exceeded expectations, and now we can focus on doing even better next year. We already have tests lined up for early 2026, which should help me be more competitive.”

Mark Goddard, Eurasia Motorsport Team Principal: “Our target was for Red to gain experience at this higher level of car and competition, and to hopefully grab a few Cup Class podiums. He can now say he’s a World Tour driver and finished 2nd in the Rookie Cup Championship. I think we ticked all the boxes. We plan to run an extensive testing program over the off-season and aim for overall TCR Asia podiums in 2026. Red made great progress this season, and if he keeps it up, I’m confident we’ll hit our 2026 targets.”
