Iñigo Anton completes TGR Philippine Cup Rd 2 clean sweep at CIS

After a strong outing at the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (TGR) Philippine Cup season opener, Iñigo Anton came back even stronger in Round 2. This time, the Obengers Racing driver took victory in all 3 races in the Super Sporting Class to complete a clean sweep at the Clark International Speedway (CIS).

Iñigo was already the fastest man on track on Friday and set a new series lap record of 2:22.872 in Qualifying to secure pole position. He then converted this into a lights-to-flag victory in Race 3, crossing the finish line with a commanding 5.997 secs lead over the next closest driver, Red Diwa of JBT Racing.

A reverse grid Race 4 on Saturday meant that Iñigo would start from P6. Despite the odds, he proceeded to carve through the field and was already fighting for a podium spot at the end of the first lap. He trailed the Toyota Team Cebu (TTC) pair of Ian Rosales and Russel Cabrera for several laps ‘til Rosales had to retire. This left Cabrera and Iñigo to duke it out for victory with Iñigo finding a way past in the closing stages and crossed the line in 1st place to secure his second victory of the weekend.

Iñigo again found himself starting from pole in the grueling 1.5 hour Endurance race. But title contender Red Diwa was not about to let him get away with another easy win. Putting pressure on the Obengers Racing driver, Diwa was able to overtake Iñigo on lap 3 and momentarily turned the tides of the race.

Instead of fighting for the lead and taking unnecessary risks, Iñigo opted to play the long game and simply kept Diwa within his sights. A well-thought-out strategy and a quick pitstop from the Obengers Racing crew then slashed the JBT Racing driver’s lead, which was a sign for Iñigo to begin his attack. He eventually caught up to the race leader and made a clean pass before running away with a 4.062 secs advantage en route to victory to complete a grand slam weekend.

Scoring 4 wins out of 6 races so far, Iñigo further extended his lead in the championship to 32.25 points heading into the final round this November 9/11.

Iñigo Anton: “I dedicate this race to the people who have supported me—my family, my teams, my sponsors, and everyone who believes in me. I also want to express my gratitude to Toyota Gazoo Racing for honing my skills and preparing me for international competitions. This championship would be the best gift I can give them for all their support, and without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today. ”

Iñigo Anton is sponsored by Toyota Balintawak, Toyota North EDSA, Toyota Otis, Motul Philippine Distributor – Infiniteserv Int’l, Yokohama Philippines, Mark Young Racing, Next Level Racing, Alpinestars Philippines, Time Master Watches, JSD Autosport, MP Turbo Philippines, Axle Sports, and University of Baguio.
