The latest Audi R8 is one fine piece of machinery, even more so in V10 Plus trim. But there’s one particular version that’s far more potent, far more vicious, and far more illusive. That is the R8 LMS GT3, the competition-only version of Audi’s supercar. And our friends at KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) has 2 of them which they fully intend to run at the 2017 Blancpain GT Series Asia.
Each one will have its own distinct livery. The #18 Champion Racing by KCMG machine will be mostly black/red, while the #19 KCMG entry will run the team’s traditional blue/white colors.
Estonian driver Martin Rump, who finished 3rd overall in last year’s Audi R8 LMS Cup, shall race alongside Rick Yoon from South Korea in the #18 car. The Pro/Am class pair will compete in all 6 events.
Then there’s the #19 car of Naoto Takeda and Takuya Shirasaka, Am/Am class drivers who will represent KCMG in 4 outings. The 2 have raced together in last year’s Motul Sepang 12 Hours, so at least we know they’re capable of sharing a machine.
The newly-launched Blancpain GT Series Asia will visit venues in Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, and China from April to October. Each event will feature 2 60-minute races with GT3, GT4, and GTC machinery sharing the same grid.
